Avid is where AAF comes from — it reads the format more strictly than anything else. That makes it the best test of whether a hand-off was written properly.
AAF grew up in the Avid world, and Media Composer is the most demanding reader of the four targets — it expects particular descriptor details and is unforgiving about sloppy files. A hand-off that opens cleanly there is usually well formed everywhere.
Ableton Live, meanwhile, writes no AAF at all. AAF Bridge fills that gap; instruments and plugin chains still have to be printed in Live first, because no exchange format carries them.

For its own media, yes — Avid works natively with MXF. An imported AAF can reference WAV audio; whether you link or copy on import is your call in the import dialog.
Yes — they are written as real AAF markers, and Media Composer displays them. That is not true everywhere: Resolve and Premiere ignore AAF markers entirely.
Set the timeline frame rate to the picture’s rate when converting, so the timecode track matches the cut. Audio placement itself is sample-based and doesn’t depend on it.
